Across North America, they've been brushing off their sequined
costumes, practicing their dance steps, and testing their pitch pipes in
anticipation of a tough contest.
hey're barbershop singers, and this week, more than 10,000
of them descend on Kansas City for the 62nd annual competition of the
Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in
America.
This year's World Series of Barbershop Harmony includes 44
quartets and 23 choruses from the USA, Canada, Great Britain, The Netherlands
and Sweden -- more than 2,000 men in all. The barbershop convention is full of
great sounds and pictures of Americana — families singing together, singers
